On participation of Russian representatives in the work of BRICS Contact Group on Trade and Economic Affairs

On February 27, representatives of RusAccreditation, the National Institute for Accreditation of RusAccreditation  (NIAR) and Rosstandart took part in the session on technical regulation, standardization, metrology, accreditation and conformity assessment at the 23rd meeting of the BRICS Contact Group on Trade and Economic Affairs, held in Moscow. The event was also attended by delegates from Brazil, India, China and South Africa (including via video conferencing).

During the event, employees of RusAccreditation provided information on the national accreditation system of the Russian Federation, focusing on the activities of the Service in the field of international cooperation and development of digital services. NIAR representatives spoke about the unified digital platform of the national accreditation system “Laboratories Proficiency Testing Program” created in Russia, about the participation of laboratories in proficiency testing programs implemented through interlaboratory comparison (ILC), noting the importance of ILC as an effective tool for confirming the competence of laboratory staff and improving the quality of test results (measurements, studies).

A representative of Rosstandart made a presentation on the transfer of the standardization process in Russia to digital technologies.

The delegates of the BRICS countries also made speeches during the session. In particular, the representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China noted the importance of cooperation between the BRICS countries on standardization issues and informed about cooperation through the metrological institutes of the BRICS countries. The Chinese side proposed to strengthen the information interaction of the BRICS countries on standardization and certification. The Brazilian side noted that at the moment Brazil was implementing a transformation of regulatory policy aimed also at reducing administrative barriers. The Indian side spoke about the use of electronic phytosanitary certificates and the need of more active usage of technological advances to facilitate trade.
